Inaugural Torchbearer Award Ceremony Back to Torchbearer Awards Home The inaugural Torchbearer Awards were presented on the 26th of September 2002 at the St. Regis Hotel to two outstanding individuals who throughout their careers have been relentless in their individual and collective efforts to open borders and enhance global free trade. The honorees at the ceremony were The Rt. Honorable Mike Moore, and the Honorable Clayton Yeutter. The program for the event was as follows:

Right Honorable Mike Moore Mike
Moore was Director General of the World Trade Organization from 1999 until
September 2002. A former Prime Minister of New Zealand, he has had a long and
distinguished career in politics, serving in a number of senior cabinet
positions. The recipient of numerous awards including New Zealand’s highest
honor, the Order of New Zealand, Mr. Moore is the author of a number of books
and is working on an account of his time at the WTO. Clayton
Yeutter has enjoyed a storied career in both public service and the private
sector for more than four decades. He has served in cabinet and sub-cabinet
level posts under four U.S. Presidents, including the positions of U.S. Trade
Representative and Secretary of Agriculture. Mr. Yeutter also served as the
Republican National Chairman and as Chief Executive Officer of the Chicago
Mercantile Exchange. He is Of Counsel to Hogan & Hartson, one the largest
law firms in the U.S.
