Initiatives

The Council is engaged with numerous different initiatives designed to further the close ties between the United States and New Zealand. These take many different forms, from commissioning studies to building support in the business community for the TPP.

A great example of how the Council continues to take the lead on furthering the relationship between the United States and New Zealand is the CSIS study, jointly commissioned and funded in conjunction with the NZUS Council, designed to form a high level resource that will further create dialogue on the shape of the future relationship.

The Council was also instrumental in developing the idea for the Friends of New Zealand Congressional Caucus, which Council members encouraged their contacts in the House to join.  The Caucus is a significant step in advancing legislative ties between the United States and New Zealand and encouraging the initiation of a free trade negotiations between the two countries.  The Caucus was soon followed by the formation of the Friendship Group in the New Zealand Parliament.

It is by these means that the Council achieves it's goal of forming closer ties between the United States and New Zealand.
