Caroline Leeming, 2012

 

Michaela Heron, 2011

Michaela thoroughly enjoyed her time at the Council.  She completed a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Film from Victoria University of Wellington while on exchange at American University during her internship.  She is returning to New Zealand in 2012 to undertake post-graduate study in international relations with a focus on civil conflict in developing countries.  When she finishes, Michaela hopes to pursue a career in the New Zealand foreign service or international development.


Eric Gomez, 2011

Eric is an undergraduate student at the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Geneseo in Geneseo, NY, majoring in International Relations and Geography with a minor in Asian Studies. Within the International Relations major, he is focusing on war and peace studies. Eric interned at the US-NZ Council through a summer internship program offered by SUNY Brockport from June-July 2011. After graduation, Eric plans on returning to Washington, DC to attend graduate school, and/or work for the United States government. Eric hopes to pursue a career in the Central Intelligence Agency or the State Department after obtaining at least a Master's Degree from a graduate school in DC, preferably the Elliot School at George Washington University or the Walsh School at Georgetown University.


Ben Schaare, 2011

Ben is an undergraduate student at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand, studying towards a Bachelor of Arts majoring in International Relations, French and European Studies. He was raised in New Plymouth, New Zealand, and has been in Washington, DC studying at American University from August 2010 to May 2011, on an exchange from Victoria University. Ben interned for the US-NZ Council from October 2010 to May 2011. When Ben graduates from Victoria at the end of 2011, he hopes to further his studies in International Relations, either in New Zealand or abroad. Ben hopes to pursue a career in the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade once he has finished studying. He hopes to travel as much as possible, especially throughout America and Europe.

Ruth Delany, 2010-2011

Ruth Delany, originally from Wellington, New Zealand, has just completed a three month internship at the United States-New Zealand Council.  This involved contributing to the organization of the 2011 Partnership Forum. Ruth was also a participant on the Future Partners Forum, which ran in conjunction with the main forum. She will receive her Bachelor of Arts majoring in French, International Relations and Politics at the end of 2011 from Victoria University in Wellington.  Ruth intends to study a Masters Degree in International Relations at a university overseas in Europe or the United States.  She hopes to work in foreign affairs in the future.


Lucy Coghill, 2009

Lucy Coghill has been a Law and International Politics Honours student atVictoria University of Wellington since 2006. From January to June 2009, Lucy did a six month exchange at American University in Washington DC. During this time, she interned at the US-NZ Council, helping with day-to-day administration, as well as assisting in building support for the 2009 Partnership Forum. Since Lucy’s return to Wellington, she has interned with Volunteer Service Abroad, and with Maryan Street, the Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Trade and Overseas Development Assistance for the Labour Party opposition at Parliament. Lucy also participated in the Future Partners Forum, alongside the 2011 Partnership Forum in Christchurch, New Zealand. She hopes to work in the public sector upon her graduation in 2012, particularly in a role that will keep her connected with Asia-Pacific affairs and the US-NZ relationship.

Jo Wiseman, 2008

Jo Wiseman interned at the US-NZ Council from May-December 2008 while studying at American University. After leaving the Council, Jo worked as a political reporter for a private news service before returning to the USA as a delegate with the New Zealand Mission to the United Nations. British-born, Jo immigrated to New Zealand when she was 10 and, a keen hiker and horserider, she is an enthusiastic advocate of the Kiwi lifestyle.  Jo holds an LLB and BA in International Relations and Political Science from Victoria University, Wellington and is currently reading for her MSc in Criminal Justice at Oxford University. Upon completion of her degree, she intends to work in international relations.
