From the Washington Post.   New Zealand Prime Minister John Key has secured the votes he needs to govern for a second term after announcing deals with two minor parties.

The deals became necessary after a general election on Nov. 26 left Key’s governing National Party just short of an outright majority, with 60 of Parliament’s 121 seats.

Key announced deals Monday with the Act and the United Future parties, each of which has a single lawmaker in Parliament. In exchange for support on key votes, each of the minor party lawmakers will get a ministerial role in Key’s new government.
