Leadership:

 

John E. Mullen, President

John Mullen became President of the United States-New Zealand Council in March 2004.  He has been a member of the Board and Executive Committee since 2001.

Mr. Mullen also is a partner in AMB International Finance, an international financial advisory firm.  He served 28 years in a distinguished U.S. Government career that included positions as Deputy General Counsel, Acting General Counsel, Deputy Assistant Administrator for Democracy and Governance, and Assistant Administrator for Private Enterprise at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and Special Assistant to Secretary of State Eagleburger for the reform and restructuring of U.S. programs for developing countries. He achieved the highest rank of the Senior Executive Service and was recipient of Presidential Rank Meritorious and Distinguished Senior Executive Awards from the President. Subsequently, Mr. Mullen was first President and CEO of a $50 million non-profit venture capital fund for Romania. Mr. Mullen's pro bono activities include serving as co-counsel, and corporate secretary to the American Council On Renewable Energy (ACORE) and as a board member of the CEELI Institute in Prague.

Mr. Mullen holds a B.S. degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a J.D. degree from Harvard Law School, and a M.Comp.L. degree from the University of Chicago Law School, in the school's Foreign Law Program that included a year of study at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität and Institute für Rechtsvergleichung, Munich, Germany.
