A common heritage and shared values support a continuing bond between the United States and New Zealand.  Both are champions of human rights, democracy, the rule of law, and the market economy.  They are committed to individual freedom, free and open markets, and respect for property.  The US-NZ Partnership Forum brought together New Zealand and American leaders and opinion makers for the purpose of discussing today's key strategic issues and forging personal and business relationships in a balanced, non-partisan fashion that will further strengthen the foundations of US-NZ friendship.

The two-night, one and a half day conference, from Thursday evening through  lunch on Saturday, took place in the center of Washington, DC.  The topics for the five Forum sessions were all relevant to New Zealand and American collaborative interests, including the challenge of doing business in the post-9/11 world, the rise of China and the Asia-Pacific region and its significance to the United States and New Zealand, economic integration in the 21st Century, the importance of sound energy policy to business, and the shared ethos of the two countries. The Forum engaged notable and expert speakers with the focus on active participation and a thoughtful exchange of views.

Attendance at the conference was limited to invited corporate senior executives from the two countries, especially from members of the US-NZ Council and the NZ-US Council. Invitees also included senior government officials and academics who are prominent in international trade, foreign relations and other fields associated with international understanding.

In addition to participation in daily formal Forum sessions, there were ample opportunities for attendees to meet at other less structured social functions.
